Zakka 2.0 Week 10/ Swedish Bloom Lap Quilt

August 5, 2013

Swedish Bloom BlockWe are half-way done with The Zakka 2.0, Patchwork Please Sew-Along and this is the last week the Flickr group will be linking up with Lindsey at LR Stitched.  Next week we will be at Debbie’s place at A Quilter’s Table, sharing our projects.  Kerry at VeryKerryBerry has shared her beautiful, gorgeous Swedish Bloom quilt on her blog this week.

Week 10’s  project features a paper pieced quilt called “Swedish Bloom”.   I can now really appreciate the work involved in paper-piecing and how tiny,  random shaped pieces of fabric can make such detailed, intricate designs.  This one little bloom block includes  over 50 pieces of fabric!  I made a few changes from the project in the book including a smaller block, faced them in one direction, and made more of them.  I wanted my quilt to look like a Swedish garden, so I used sashing in a sky-blue bird print with green corner-posts.  I added a cross-stitch stem, because I just didn’t feel like my flowers were complete without a stem.

It’s so pretty, Debbie. Love the fabrics, layout and great idea for the stem. Oh, and your quilt label is so stinking cute! And wasn’t Kerry’s to die for too!?!? I gushed about hers on my post too. Now after seeing both of y’all’s I’m wishing I did a full quilt. Guess Ill add it to my bucket. Haha. Have a great week!
