Big city girl QAL: Delft,Netherlands

December 29, 2013

             Wait!…wait for me…. Big City Girl…….

The Big city girl QAL came to an end about a month ago.  I missed a few weeks of travel with this great QAL hosted by Amy  and Aylin because I went back to work!  I really love my new job, but it has put a halt to a couple of endearing projects I was working on.  One project was the BCG-QAL featuring a weekly block representing a city from around the world. The blocks were designed and shared by incredibly creative quilters, from their featured city.  Although it saddens me to travel alone, I plan  to continue along the journey at my own pace and complete the blocks that I missed!

Lotje at Lotje M designed her block representing Delft, a city located in S. Holland in the Netherlands. Delft is famous for it’s Delft blue pottery, the Delft University of Technology, and the many canals that run through the city.  Delft has been exporting their hand painted pottery for over 400 years.  I love Lotje’s block and how she made her houses blue to represent the Delft blue color her city is famous for and I decided to make my houses blue as well.  She provided the cutting measurements in order to piece her design, but I decided to enlarge her pattern and paper-piece this adorable collection of little houses.

I think it would be so much fun to jump in a little boat, travel the canals, explore the city, and pick up a bit of that blue pottery along the way!
